A Crown of Impunity

"I got a grill--I don't got to get my tooth fixed. The tooth fairy would retire if I lose it" - Lil' Wayne

New Orleans’ own, self proclaimed, “greatest rapper alive,” Dwayne Carter–AKA Lil’ Wayne–was scheduled to begin serving his 12-month prison term on Rikers Island yesterday after pleading guilty to felony gun possession charges arising from his 2007 arrest.

Wayne, who recently performed at the Grammy’s, is featured on the cover of Rolling Stone’s latest issue, in which he discusses his final days of freedom. His final weekend of freedom, which he spent in Miami consisted of the rapper and his team frantically shooting nine miscellaneous videos, not including  a nearly hour-long video in which Wayne addresses his “real” fans, asking them not to forget about him.

It’s pretty… uhh… boring. But it’s here if you have any desire to watch.

So anyway, I’ve given you all of this background and build-up to say this. Are you ready?

***Drumroll please.***

The man didn’t go. Yeah. The courts have pushed his sentencing back to March, due to the fact that he will be undergoing work on a cracked tooth once his dentist returns from vacation next month.

I’ll let Wayne provide a punchline here, if he has one.

We all know that the law has a special lens under which it views the rich and famous, but this just seems like a cockeyed call to me.

A toothache? I’ll take one of those over jail any day. But would they ever let you or me?

I can’t believe that. Not wait, actually.. I could. Money allows people to get away with a lot of things and recieve special treatment that anyone else would never get. By the way, I added you to my blogroll. Add me! : ) http://nicspicks.wordpress.com

I only look at this and aspire to be famous enough someday to get out of jail as well. You can’t fault the man for being well-liked. But you can for the lack of foresight in getting a tooth fixed before going to jail where he’s only going to chip it again trying to bite through the lock on his cell.
